Best months

Trip length

9 days

as planned below — all customisable

Day by day

Day 1

Fly west

Arrive Urumqi or Altay. If Urumqi: overnight and acclimatise — you've crossed two time-zones' worth of country.

Day 2

Warm-up day

Silk Road resort (Urumqi) or Jiangjunshan (Altay city) — legs on, altitude in, night ski if you're at Jiangjunshan.

Day 3

The road to Hemu

Winter-road transfer into the Altai mountains. Check in, wood stove, early night.

Day 4–7

Ski Jikepulin

Four days on China's biggest vertical: gondola laps, birch trees, and the sidecountry only with a licensed local guide — we connect you, we never organise off-piste ourselves.

Day 8

Buffer / return day

Back to Altay city. If the weather held and you used no buffer, that's a bonus Jiangjunshan night session.

Day 9

Fly home

Altay → onward. Don't book a same-day international connection.

Transport legs

  • →Beijing → Altay: ~3½–4½ hr nonstop (seasonal) or via Urumqi; Shanghai → Urumqi ~5½ hr + 1¼ hr hop
  • →Altay city → Hemu village: 2½–4 hr winter road transfer (arranged, not self-drive)
  • →Hemu → Altay/airport: same road back — build in the buffer day

Booking help: our getting-around guide covers flights, trains and ski-bag rules.

Where to stay

Urumqi: airport-side business hotel. Altay city: downtown (10 min to Jiangjunshan). Hemu: log-cabin guesthouses — book early, the village is small.

What the estimate covers

6 ski days (Jikepulin list rate incl. rental ~$69/day; others cheaper), 8 nights (Urumqi hotel + Hemu guesthouses, two sharing), food, and the real cost — the flight chain + 4×4 transfers (~$320–400). Excludes international flights.

Who this trip is NOT for

First-week beginners, tight schedules, and anyone who needs resort polish — infrastructure is young, English is rare, and weather owns the itinerary. That's the deal, and for the right skier it's a great one.
