Snow realityNo overselling
Let's be honest about Chongli: it is very cold and very dry, which means excellent man-made snow that stays chalky and grippy all season — but natural snowfall is modest. You are coming for reliable, perfectly groomed corduroy under blue skies, not powder days. If a storm does hit, it's a bonus, not the plan. Thaiwoo grooms well and holds its snow better than most thanks to north-facing terrain.
Come here for
- ✓First trip to China — easiest soft landing, English signage, Western food available
- ✓Intermediates who want long groomers and a real village après scene
- ✓Families: good ski school and beginner zone separation
Skip it if
Powder hunters. There is no significant off-piste and the natural snow base is thin — go to Altay for that.
Getting there
High-speed train from Beijing North or Qinghe station to Taizicheng (about 1 hour, from ¥90), then a 10–15 min taxi or resort shuttle. The HSR line was built for the 2022 Olympics and is the single best thing about skiing Chongli — you can leave central Beijing after breakfast and be on a lift before noon.
Where to stay
The slopeside village has a cluster of hotels from ~$60 to $200+/night (Thaiwoo-branded hotels, Club Med Joyview nearby). Staying in Chongli town is cheaper (~$30–50) but adds a 20-min shuttle each way.
How tickets actually get bought
Lift passes are sold through WeChat mini-programs and Chinese OTAs (Fliggy, Meituan, Trip.com Chinese app) — the English Trip.com site lists some products but often at a markup, and most ticket flows need a Chinese phone number or payment method. This is exactly the friction our concierge removes: we buy your passes at local prices before you arrive.
