Using your Ikon Pass in China

As of the 2026–27 season your Ikon Pass covers three Chinese resorts — which turns a China trip from a curiosity into nearly-free skiing for passholders already paying for the season. The details, including the one visa trap:

What's covered, 2026–27

Per Ikon's 10 September 2026 announcement: Genting Resort Secret Garden (listed as Yunding Snow Park — on the pass since 2025–26) plus two new additions, Beidahu and Lake Songhua. Full Ikon Pass: 7 days at each, no blackout dates. Ikon Base Pass: 5 days each. The Session Pass excludes the Chinese destinations. That's up to 21 lift days in China on a pass you may already own.

How redemption works on the ground

Here's the under-documented part: Ikon's site handles the entitlement, but the on-mountain redemption flow at the Chinese resorts (pass-desk pickup vs app reservation, ID requirements for foreign passholders) isn't published in detail in English — TBC, and we're verifying with the resorts directly. Budget time at the pass desk on day one, bring your passport and the Ikon app, and if you're a concierge client we confirm the current flow before you fly.

The visa reality by passport

UK, Australian, NZ, Canadian and most EU passports: no issue — you're on the 50-country visa-free list, all three Ikon resorts are open to you.

US passports: the trap. The US isn't on the visa-free list; the usual workaround is the 240-hour visa-free transit — but its permitted-stay areas cover Hebei (Chongli, i.e. Genting) and not Jilin province, where Beidahu and Lake Songhua sit. So on transit-without-visa, Genting works; the two Jilin resorts require an actual L visa. Factor the visa (and its processing time) into any US Ikon trip aimed at the Northeast.

For Australians: your home resorts connect

The Ikon ecosystem already includes Thredbo and Mt Buller via their season-pass add-ons (Southern Hemisphere terms differ — Base-level access runs 5 SH days combined; check your pass level's current terms). The practical upshot: the same pass family that covers your Australian winter now covers a China January — the Australia guide has the route.

Is it worth routing a trip around? If you hold a full Ikon Pass: yes for the Northeast — 7 free days at Beidahu + Lake Songhua pairs perfectly with the Harbin + Jilin itinerary, and the pass saves you ~$50/day × as many days as you ski. Altay isn't on the pass — that trip stands on its own merits.

Ikon days + everything the pass doesn't cover

The pass handles lifts; we handle hotels, transfers, trains and the Chinese-app logistics around them.
